SUMMARY:Event/Webinar: How Publishing Has Evolved--and Where It's Going
DESCRIPTION:The only constant in publishing is change. Since the time of Gutenberg\, the tension of technology\, culture\, and business demands have shaped and transformed the publishing industry. Surviving the challenges of the past year have led many to consider what’s next in their publishing careers and how their knowledge and experience could help them clarify their next moves. \nJoin us for the May MBPR panel discussion as we take stock of where we’ve been as an industry\, how we made it to where we are today\, and how we are evolving—as seen by three seasoned publishing professionals with their fingers on the pulse of the future. \nMike Shatzkin is the founder & CEO of the Idea Logical Company and has had a 50+year career in the book publishing industry as a supply chain expert\, digital change leader\, strategic consultant\, and the author of nearly a dozen books. For the past four years Mike has been a partner with Lena Tabori in ClimateChangeResources.org\, a website that organizes the world of facts and activist opportunities dealing with climate change. He continues to think and write about publishing’s digital change. His Shatzkin Files blog remains active\, and in 2019\, Oxford University Press published Mike’s latest book\, The Book Business: What Everyone Needs to Know\, co-authored with the late Robert P. Riger. \nAmy Quale (she/her) is a writer\, publisher\, and writing coach. She has worked with large and small presses and hundreds of authors in her career. She went on to co-found Wise Ink Creative Publishing in 2013. She is the co-author of Social Media Secrets for Authors and is currently working on a children’s book on forest foraging. She has an MA in English and is a 2017 graduate of Yale School of Management’s Leadership Strategies in Book Publishing. \nFounder and CEO Patricia Stockland is a seasoned executive in children’s publishing. Prior to starting Kind World Publishing\, she led change and growth initiatives as publisher for Capstone\, VP and editor in chief for Lerner Publishing Group\, and editorial director for Red Line Editorial\, among other roles. She’s authored more than 80 books and edited and concepted numerous others. Her expertise spans creative work and continual improvement across operations. She has a secret love of metadata and a not-so-secret love of baked goods\, which she shares with her family in Minnesota. \nThis webinar is offered free of charge to MBPR members\, for $5 to students\, and for $10 to nonmembers. When you register via the Eventbrite link\, you will receive further instructions on how to attend.
