If you are experiencing symptoms of illness\, or if you have been exposed to someone known or suspected to have COVID-19\, please protect those around you by staying home. \nNonalcoholic options are available. Light appetizers will be provided. See the Lake Monster website for the drink list and food truck schedule.

SUMMARY:September Webinar: Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion in the Publishing Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Join us for MBPR’s inaugural event of the season! As many of us well know\, the publishing industry has long struggled to accurately reflect the diversity of the world and failed to provide a welcoming place for all\, and many of the industry’s recent efforts demonstrate that people want change.  \nWe’ve invited keynote speaker Jennifer Baker\, senior editor at Amistad Books\, for a frank discussion about the ongoing concerns around diversity\, equity\, inclusion (DEI) efforts in publishing\, including what employers and employees can begin to think about deep-rooted issues. We’ll talk about some of the biggest concerns we face\, how we as individuals can learn from our mistakes\, and potential ways to move forward. No one\, including Jennifer\, can provide clear answers\, but by sharing experiences and examples of personal growth from her own work and from colleagues across the industry\, we’ll open a dialogue for exploring our shared responsibility in seeing sustained progress. \nReservations for the event will open up this Wednesday\, September 15 and will close Monday\, September 27th at noon. \nRegister here. \nJennifer Baker is a publishing professional of almost 20 years\, creator and host of the Minorities in Publishing podcast\, and faculty member of the MFA program in creative nonfiction at Bay Path University. In 2019\, she was named Publishers Weekly Superstar for her contributions to inclusion and representation in publishing. Jennifer is also the editor of the BIPOC-short story anthology Everyday People: The Color of Life (Atria Books\, 2018) and the author of the forthcoming novel Forgive Me Not (Putnam BFYR\, 2022). Her fiction\, nonfiction\, and criticism has appeared in various print and online publications. Her website is jennifernbaker.com.
