With a Little Help from My Friends: Editors, Authors, and the Art of Developmental Editing

March 19, 2014 @ 5:30 pm

$20.00

Everyone can see the finished product on bookstore shelves. Some see a manuscript as it makes its way towards a publisher. But between the submitted manuscript and the finished product, some of the most intensive work publishers do with a book is also the most hidden. In some cases, this work is a short process; in others, it’s long and involved.

Either way, substantial developmental editing — and the relationship between author and editor — is a central ingredient in the lives of books, publishers, and readers. But in a time of increased workloads, towers of manuscripts, and fast-approaching deadlines, the process of developmental editing can be a tricky one to master and carry out in a substantive yet efficient manner.

Join us for an opportunity to see onto the editor’s table and engage in discussion with three highly respected developmental editors working with nonfiction, fiction, and children’s literature. It’s a great opportunity to pick their brains and hear from them about good methods, approaches, considerations, and the difficult choices that lie along the road that leads from the submission envelope to the new release table.
