Sales Associate – Special Sales – Hybrid (Minneapolis, MN)
Summary: The Sales Associate – Special Sales works to increase sales through specialty non-trade, non-classroom, and non-library channels as well as select digital and educational distributor/wholesaler accounts.
This is a hybrid position based out of our downtown Minneapolis office, some minimum number of days in the office will be expected.
Duties and Responsibilities
Special Sales
- Research, prospect and develop new markets and customers for our titles, including cold calling.
- Manage and grow existing accounts.
- Sell, develop proposals, and make presentations to accounts—including but not limited to direct mail catalogers, websites, subscription box companies, specialty retailers, specialty distributors, gift wholesalers, proprietary label accounts.
- Prepare special sales budget, weekly sales call plans, and sales reports for management.
Gift Sales
- Spearhead gift (non-bookstore) sales and manage gift sales representatives. Present new titles each season to the gift reps via Microsoft Teams.
Digital Sales
- Onboard, manage and grow select digital (Non-Amazon) wholesalers, distributors and other accounts.
Educational Distributors/Wholesalers
- Manage, grow, and make presentations to select accounts.
- Monitor, analyze, and track sales activities.
- Oversee and process orders with customer service team, including special handling, and the accounting team, if necessary.
- Oversee customized sales materials (sell sheets, mailers, catalogs, etc.) with marketing team for special sales customers.
- Troubleshoot (e.g., out of print books, etc.).
- Keep customer database information current.
- Meet regularly with supervisor to discuss workflow and status.
- Keep abreast of relevant job and industry information via trade journals.
- Perform other related business duties assigned by immediate supervisor and/or other management as required.
Experience and Necessary skills:
- Two years’ sales experience with the ability to prioritize projects and daily tasks to meet long-term and short-term deadlines.
- Is a clear, effective, and timely communicator—in verbal and written forms
- Must have good telephone skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Possesses strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and consistently meet deadlines.
- Some travel may be required.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience.
Full-time Salaried position
Hiring Range: $45,000 to $60,000 DOE
Office hours: Monday through Friday, daytime hours

Associate Content Team Project Manager – Hybrid (Minneapolis, MN)
Summary: The Associate Content Team Project Manager will work collaboratively with Editorial, Design, and Photo Research managers, across imprints, to contract and manage packaged school/library series and titles. The Associate Content Team Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing series and the work of packagers to help ensure quality, consistency, and on-time delivery of products. The Associate Content Team Project Manager will communicate contract terms, schedules, series guidelines and directives, and file needs for new nonfiction and fiction series and new titles in existing series. The Associate Content Team Project Manager will act as the oversight and approval/signoff point for both editorial and visual content, maintaining the quality expectations of the market and the company.
This is a hybrid position based out of our downtown Minneapolis office, with the person being in the office two days a week minimum.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the internal communication hub and approval point for externally produced series and single titles as assigned.
- Working with directors and product planning, aid in the development of packaged series that is consistent with the publisher’s intent as well as within the print and digital marketplace. This work involves negotiating with and contracting packagers; communicating and enforcing series guidelines; and managing the in-house approval of prototypes for packaged product.
- Oversee the production of approximately 150 externally created titles per year, including tracking incoming and outgoing files, cross reads for quality checks, and production/design checks. Some of this work will be delegated to other staff, but the overall production quality control responsibility lies with the project manager.
- Establish and maintain relationships with packaging partners.
- Enter and manage schedules for externally produced series into internal scheduling tool, managing workloads and schedules.
- Coordinate metadata, CIP applications, leveling, printing, and final files for externally produced product.
- Create and maintain workflow documentation.
- Manage production of ancillary product, such as teaching guides and student workbooks, that are externally produced.
- Create workflows for and manage special projects, such as Spanish translations, as assigned.
- Attend one or two local industry events per year, as available.
Experience and Necessary skills:
- Clear, effective, and timely verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail
- Self-monitoring and self-directed
- Appreciation for efficient systems, processes, and schedules/deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proficient in Excel, Word, PDF markup, and project management tools
- Strong editing/writing skills
- Strong eye for clean, effective design
- Good sense of nonfiction and series content
- Understanding of series development in both print and digital content
- Familiar with file transfer protocols
Experience with the following a plus:
- One to five years’ experience in project management
- Knowledge of publishing
Education: Bachelor’s Degree, or work experience in project management.
Full-time Salaried position
Hiring Range: $42,000 to $50,000 DOE

Metadata Specialist – Hybrid (Minneapolis, MN)
Summary: The Metadata Specialist enters and maintains product marketing metadata in the company’s proprietary title management database. The Metadata Specialist also functions in a key support role for an interdepartmental metadata task force and other marketing duties.
This is a hybrid position based out of our downtown Minneapolis office, some minimum number of days in the office will be expected.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for product marketing metadata in the company’s proprietary title management database for all Lerner Publishing Group imprints and distribution clients, striving for completeness, accuracy, and suitability of all metadata, with the goal of enhancing product discoverability.
- Performs data entry, data maintenance, and data correction including regular data audits; maintains processes and protocols to ensure data integrity.
- Creates and maintains packaged/bundled product records (kits) proactively and as requested for district/bulk orders in conjunction with the Lerner Classroom team.
- Validates all data points for products and kits prior to the marketing department running sell sheet/catalog scripts and again prior to activating titles on the website; confirms that product information appears correctly on the website.
- Acts as a backup to the Metadata Director as needed.
- Researches best practices and new technologies to ensure product metadata meets industry standards; works with internal teams to update our systems to align with changes to BISAC codes and other BISG standards.
- Supports marketing team and IT to cross-reference internal database to other sources, including ONIX feeds, website display, and catalog automation software. Maintains documentation such as the Metadata Map of the data exchange between these systems.
- Maintains database expertise, process knowledge, and documentation for sales, marketing, and other departments; act as in-house subject matter expert.
- Supports marketing department needs for copywriting, copyediting, proofing, cover routing, and other tasks as required.
- Performs other related business duties assigned by immediate supervisor and/or other management as required.
Experience and Necessary skills:
- Has excellent computer skills to operate effectively with company systems and programs to facilitate data management; knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel (advanced experience using spreadsheets including v or x-lookup and macros), and Outlook. Knowledge of and experience using databases or information management systems is a plus.
- Has the ability to implement processes and adhere to standards for title metadata management, resulting in high data integrity and satisfactory audit practices.
- Is process-oriented yet adaptable to change while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Excels at performing detailed tasks and has strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Is a clear, effective, and timely communicator—in verbal and written forms—and works collaboratively in a team environment.
- Possesses strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and consistently meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with publishing practices (including ONIX-type feeds) is a plus.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience.
